Much of our identity forms out of our earliest experiences. Who molded us, who cared for us, who taught us how to care for ourselves?
Day 1
I have this childhood memory of my Gram returning from a weekly shopping trip to Bridgetown and handing me a cream, irregular shaped brick of cocoa butter. I filled with wonder over its feel, fragrance and the way I had to warm it in my hands before it would release any of its benefits.
Skin care became a relationship I would have with the very elements around me. The plants in our yard, the natural resources of the island were now the symbiotic raw materials that would nourish us if we respected and cared for them.
Moving from Barbados to Canada meant so many changes! The one I didn’t expect is how dry and ashy my skin became, I mean, flat out embarrassing! So, I did what most people do, I rifled through countless drug store options in the hopes of recreating a moisturized state that, ultimately, lotion cocktails couldn’t consistently deliver. So here I am, back to my roots, sourcing and blending the raw materials that embodied my early idea of self-care and nurturing.
I’m not starting from scratch, I’m starting from experience, and sharing this experience has become my passion. If you’re on a journey to embrace natural options for nourishing your skin, let’s start with the EL3MENTS.
